Market Experiences...

There are many markets here in the capital. Some are very similar to our markets in M-town, but some are VERY different. We've had to go to a lot of markets this week to get all of the supplies and things we need to get our new flat all set up, so we've had many different experiences this week. The pic below is of one of the nicer touristy markets...
So, most of the time, when you go to the market, you will have many kids come up to you asking for money. Sometimes (usually on Saturdays) they will have some sort of idol paraphernalia with them hoping to encourage the person they are begging from to give them some money. We usually try to keep snacks like peanuts or something else to give them instead of money and they are usually just as happy with that :)
You can see why they send the kids out to do this... look how cute they are... how can you say no to a face like this?? :)
One of the markets has a store that has become very creative recently. You see, there is a big problem with people using the restroom anywhere they want here... A very old and self-proclaimed "famous" bookstore in one of the touristy markets has an empty storage area next to their store that they own. This storage area had been a prime target for people to use as their restroom over the years. The owners have done everything they can think of. They have cleaned it up to look really nice. They have put plants around it. They have even put of pictures of their g0ds, hoping to deter anyone form using it as their own private restroom (which usually works). Well, they had hit a wall - nothing was working. So, they thought and thought and came up with what I think is a pretty brilliant idea. They turned it into a big bunny cage :) They decorated it with lights and pottery and Bunnies! And since then, it has turned from a stinky storage area, to a fun petting zoo :)

Adam and I like this nice touristy market, because just a couple of stores down from the bunnies is a TROPICAL SMOOTHIE! My personal favorite place :) So, we had smoothies the other day! (Courtesy of the Browns in Tally :)) Man, were they good!!

The markets also have a polethra of people cooking food or selling some sort of food product. These are fried potatos... kinda like big hash browns! They are really good. They will fry them, then put lemon juice and masala on them and they ROCK! Come visit us and you can try them too :)

I never knew there was a famous bookstore over in that market. I wonder what other cool things about this city that I take for granted. Something NO ONE should take for granted, though, is Tropical Smoothie. :)

Campa Cola & Exploring :)

Today we had some things to do in the Central part of our city, so while we were there, we decided to take on some adventures :) Adventure #1 - the underground market. This market is pretty crazy. It's actually underground and has electronics & clothes mostly. They sell things pretty cheap, so it's an interesting place to go. Today we got an 64 Gig flash drive/pen drive for about $5. Crazy hunh? Here's Adam and Aashini in one of the stores. They're all REALLY small stores - about 10x10 feet I would guess (but I'm really bad at guessing that sort of stuff :)) We go here a lot to get things, so I guess it's not a new adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. Before the next part of our adventure (the real part of our adventure) we stopped for lunch. Aashini will always eat at McDonalds, so that's where we went :) They just started selling chicken nuggets here at McDonalds, so it's super easy to get her to eat there :) This McDonald's had high chair

Starbucks!

Starbucks opened in our city last night!!  I'm not a huge coffee drinker... but I was excited about the opening!!  (I think I like Starbucks because of all the green! haha!... Aashini and Diya think the mermaid on the logo looks like me... haha! Maybe it's the weird wavy hair :)... not sure :) ) Anyway, we got there and the line was SUPER long!  The wait time was about 45 minutes!!!  There were so many people there!!!  I tried to get a pic of all the people... (that's why this picture is at an annoying angle... I was trying to get it all in in between the columns :))    Here's Aashini doing a jumping picture!!  The girls tried to do a jumping picture :) haha!  haha!  They had a few spills along the way :)  I never got them both jumping :)  Stuff for sale....  OK, one more because I think they are cute :) haha!  People waiting in line :) Some friends that made it inside! :)  We decided not to wait in line... So we'll

Funny Things - Age Appropriate?

Just wondering... but who thought that putting a HUGE Super scary picture right over the playground was a good idea??  hahahaha!!!  My kids were terrified! :) haha!
