Culture Fun!

There are a lot of fun cultural things going on this time of year. Right now it's "Wedding Season"... It's kind of like the summer months in America - but LOUDER and ALL WEEK LONG... not just the weekends...

So weddings are really fun (you can see one of my previous posts on weddings by clicking here: Wedding Post)... One part of the wedding, that is the loudest, is the part where the groom and his family arrive at the wedding... depending on how much money they have, depends on how extravagant it is. Typically, the groom will come in on a white female horse with the family and friends walking along side him. They will also have guys that are carrying a string of big lights that look kind of like chandeliers... (you can see an example of some in the picture below). Then they will usually have music of some kind. In M-town, the typical music was a couple of drummers - which was really cool!Another kind of music that is done for a wedding percession is a full-out band. This wasn't as common in M-town (although we did see it a lot), but it seems to be used more frequently here in the Capital. They will wear cool band uniforms and play popular radio songs. It's really fun!
Yesterday we were riding through the city and we saw this group of people going to a wedding... It's not the best pic because we were all driving in the crazy traffic (and it's super foggy because of the time of year)... but I thought it was fun :)
Birthdays are HUGE here! They are a crazy cultural event that I have really had to get used to :) Adam wrote a blog about it when we first really experienced birthdays here (before we really understood them :)) . If you want to read it, click here: Adam’s Birthday Blog . Our across-the-street-neighbors had a BIG birthday party the other day. Their house was super-decorated!! They had their party for one of their children... one that was too young to even know that the party was for him :) I thought their house looked cool :) It was a big party!
That's about it, just wanted to share a couple of fun things about our country :) You guys ROCK!

I thought April was the 'wedding month'. We saw a lot of them when we were there. I think there are just a lot of weddings and they are going on all the time. It is really cool to see all your pictures of all these different cultural traditions. Your neighbors did really decorate! Looks like any excuse for a good party.

Wow!!! Your folks know how to throw a party!!! Sounds like fun! My folks are so concerned with the clean up afterwards that they almost never really let their hair down. I also enjoyed Adam's post - thanks for sharing!

Campa Cola & Exploring :)

Today we had some things to do in the Central part of our city, so while we were there, we decided to take on some adventures :) Adventure #1 - the underground market. This market is pretty crazy. It's actually underground and has electronics & clothes mostly. They sell things pretty cheap, so it's an interesting place to go. Today we got an 64 Gig flash drive/pen drive for about $5. Crazy hunh? Here's Adam and Aashini in one of the stores. They're all REALLY small stores - about 10x10 feet I would guess (but I'm really bad at guessing that sort of stuff :)) We go here a lot to get things, so I guess it's not a new adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. Before the next part of our adventure (the real part of our adventure) we stopped for lunch. Aashini will always eat at McDonalds, so that's where we went :) They just started selling chicken nuggets here at McDonalds, so it's super easy to get her to eat there :) This McDonald's had high chair

Starbucks!

Starbucks opened in our city last night!!  I'm not a huge coffee drinker... but I was excited about the opening!!  (I think I like Starbucks because of all the green! haha!... Aashini and Diya think the mermaid on the logo looks like me... haha! Maybe it's the weird wavy hair :)... not sure :) ) Anyway, we got there and the line was SUPER long!  The wait time was about 45 minutes!!!  There were so many people there!!!  I tried to get a pic of all the people... (that's why this picture is at an annoying angle... I was trying to get it all in in between the columns :))    Here's Aashini doing a jumping picture!!  The girls tried to do a jumping picture :) haha!  haha!  They had a few spills along the way :)  I never got them both jumping :)  Stuff for sale....  OK, one more because I think they are cute :) haha!  People waiting in line :) Some friends that made it inside! :)  We decided not to wait in line... So we'll
