In Florida :)

We're here - we've made it to America ;) The flight went surprisingly well - thanks soooooo much for lifting us up - that's totally why the flight went so smoothly! Aashini slept but not too much - so she's doing great and hasn't really dealt with much jet lag at all - it's amazing :) We thought we were going to get stuck in Miami - we got there just as the edge of Hurricane Fay was coming into town... but it worked out perfectly - just a bunch of turbulence :)
So we had a few interesting first impressions... one is that water fountains are amazing!!! We've been having a blast drinking out of them!
Another first impression was that people in the service industry in America are definitely not as nice or as helpful as South Asians in the service industry. We were on our first flight on our way to Chicago... we asked the flight attendant to get the bassinet. Aashini fell asleep in Adam's lap and then they brought us our food, so I had both trays on my lap. The Flight Attendant brought us the bassinet and set it on the floor in front of us. Later, she came buy bringing drinks and asked us (kinda rudely) why we didn't put up the bassinet she thought we wanted it. I tried to explain that I had 2 trays of food on my lap and Adam only had one hand b/c he had Aashini...and we weren't exactly sure how to put it together..... and she said: "Oh, quit making your excuses, I'll just do it"...
seriously? haha!
My sister is in town for the next few days. Aashini has enjoyed meeting her Masi (pronounced "mossy" - it means mother's sister or aunt) :)
This picture made me laugh...
OK, well, this one makes me laugh too :)
Tonight, to help with jet lag, we went to the batting cage - Aashini had fun with the helmet... sorta :)

Looks like y'all are having a blast! Glad you missed Fay. Sounds like you met an exceedingly rude stewardess. It's been my experience in Thailand and in East Asia, though, that although service is usually done with a better attitude, it's usually not done with as much skill. I'll be interested for your more detailed comparison later.

those flight attendants don't get paid enough to be nice, apparently (that's the party line anyway... *I* nice should be free, but whatevs) - and air travel isn't glamorized here the way it is in other parts of the world - there's a reason asian and middle eastern airlines always get the best service ratings!!

I'm glad you got home safely. And I hope you didn't actually take that gator (croc?) picture. [shudders]

Welcome back. It's always the small things (water fountains, etc.) that surprise me. I wanted to drink cold milk - I never drink cold milk!

GREAT post..from water fountains to Aash poking her nose. :) Our flight attendants were rude too...I've heard that flight is the one they don't like to work. You're right Erin - Nice should be free!

And I love how you're so nonchalant about gators, you crazy Floridian! ;)

Nice pics! I hope y'all are getting adjusted quickly. I think my favorite part about the States is free refills at restaurants. Take advantage of it while you can!

Campa Cola & Exploring :)

Today we had some things to do in the Central part of our city, so while we were there, we decided to take on some adventures :) Adventure #1 - the underground market. This market is pretty crazy. It's actually underground and has electronics & clothes mostly. They sell things pretty cheap, so it's an interesting place to go. Today we got an 64 Gig flash drive/pen drive for about $5. Crazy hunh? Here's Adam and Aashini in one of the stores. They're all REALLY small stores - about 10x10 feet I would guess (but I'm really bad at guessing that sort of stuff :)) We go here a lot to get things, so I guess it's not a new adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. Before the next part of our adventure (the real part of our adventure) we stopped for lunch. Aashini will always eat at McDonalds, so that's where we went :) They just started selling chicken nuggets here at McDonalds, so it's super easy to get her to eat there :) This McDonald's had high chair

Starbucks!

Starbucks opened in our city last night!!  I'm not a huge coffee drinker... but I was excited about the opening!!  (I think I like Starbucks because of all the green! haha!... Aashini and Diya think the mermaid on the logo looks like me... haha! Maybe it's the weird wavy hair :)... not sure :) ) Anyway, we got there and the line was SUPER long!  The wait time was about 45 minutes!!!  There were so many people there!!!  I tried to get a pic of all the people... (that's why this picture is at an annoying angle... I was trying to get it all in in between the columns :))    Here's Aashini doing a jumping picture!!  The girls tried to do a jumping picture :) haha!  haha!  They had a few spills along the way :)  I never got them both jumping :)  Stuff for sale....  OK, one more because I think they are cute :) haha!  People waiting in line :) Some friends that made it inside! :)  We decided not to wait in line... So we'll
