South Asia in America!!

Tonight we went to an awesome South Asian First Birthday Party :) My friend Priya has a daughter (Ananya) who just had her first birthday, so they threw a big bash! There were about 40-50 South Asians there - and since I'm missing SA, I loved it! Here's the Birthday girl (below) with my friend Priya and her husband.
Ananya liked her first taste of cake!
This is my other friend Jyoti :)
This is Jyoti's daughter, Parisha. Aashini had the best time playing with her! At one point they started holding hands :) it was so cute :)
They had soooo much food! This is only one table of food. They put the little flags (food labels) in the food just for us :) Priya made all of the food herself!! It was a lot of work! They also had appetizers and deserts!
Aashini really had a lot of fun and made a lot of new friends!
Here are Aashini and I with the birthday girl and Priya :) And yes, everyone was wearing a sari... Priya called everyone and told them to wear a sari... except me - she didn't want to embarass me if I didn't have one - haha! So instead, I was one of the only ones wearing jeans :)
Here is Adam with his new friends :)
Today it was really cold, so we came to the party all bundled up... but they cranked up the heat inside - so we really felt like we were back in South Asia! haha! We had a lot of fun and made a lot of new friends - it was awesome! It was cool to be in South Asia while here in America ;)

Love your friend's name - Jyoti ;)
Our little Jyoti still has not arrived, but we're waiting patiently.

Too bad you didn't get a chance to wear a sari. Sounds like you guys had fun. :)

I'm so jealous you met so many South Asians so quickly. I wanted so badly to be invited to a Diwali party, but didn't know any very well.

How come Ananya looks SO much older than my own (almost) one year old? Is it the hair?

I know Ananya has sooo much hair and she is walking - so she seems so much older than Aashini even though Aash is older - it's so funny how kids develop so differently!
I've loved all the recent posts! It looks like you guys are having such a great time in the states! I don't think we'll find as many of our folks in the states...but maybe we'll run into a couple! (There's a few less billion of our people than yours:)

Aashini looks right at home!!!

Campa Cola & Exploring :)

Today we had some things to do in the Central part of our city, so while we were there, we decided to take on some adventures :) Adventure #1 - the underground market. This market is pretty crazy. It's actually underground and has electronics & clothes mostly. They sell things pretty cheap, so it's an interesting place to go. Today we got an 64 Gig flash drive/pen drive for about $5. Crazy hunh? Here's Adam and Aashini in one of the stores. They're all REALLY small stores - about 10x10 feet I would guess (but I'm really bad at guessing that sort of stuff :)) We go here a lot to get things, so I guess it's not a new adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. Before the next part of our adventure (the real part of our adventure) we stopped for lunch. Aashini will always eat at McDonalds, so that's where we went :) They just started selling chicken nuggets here at McDonalds, so it's super easy to get her to eat there :) This McDonald's had high chair

Starbucks!

Starbucks opened in our city last night!!  I'm not a huge coffee drinker... but I was excited about the opening!!  (I think I like Starbucks because of all the green! haha!... Aashini and Diya think the mermaid on the logo looks like me... haha! Maybe it's the weird wavy hair :)... not sure :) ) Anyway, we got there and the line was SUPER long!  The wait time was about 45 minutes!!!  There were so many people there!!!  I tried to get a pic of all the people... (that's why this picture is at an annoying angle... I was trying to get it all in in between the columns :))    Here's Aashini doing a jumping picture!!  The girls tried to do a jumping picture :) haha!  haha!  They had a few spills along the way :)  I never got them both jumping :)  Stuff for sale....  OK, one more because I think they are cute :) haha!  People waiting in line :) Some friends that made it inside! :)  We decided not to wait in line... So we'll

Funny Things - Age Appropriate?

Just wondering... but who thought that putting a HUGE Super scary picture right over the playground was a good idea??  hahahaha!!!  My kids were terrified! :) haha!
