We're BACK! (with Rats!)

We made it back! The flights were so long (especially our 6 hour layover right off the bat) but we made it!! We flew from Tallahassee to Memphis (where the long layover was) and then Memphis to Detroit (see picture below). It was snowing in Detroit! The only snow we saw all the time in the states was at the airpots! haha! We left Detroit about an hour late because they had to De-ice the plane! I'm from the south so I had no idea that they did that... and that it would take so long! haha! We were an hour late coming into Amsterdam (where it was snowing too!) and had to rush to our gate (it was a blur of wooden shoes!)... When we got in the plane we had to wait about 1.5 hours while they de-iced that plane! So we got into the Captial at about 2:00 am!! When we got home we were welcomed to a rat infestation in our bathroom!!! EWWWW!!!! Aparently, if the toilet isn't flushed for a couple months and dries out, then rats can crawl UP the TOILET!!! yes... nice... They wrecked our bathroom! I didn't post the most disgusting pictures, but just trust me... these are gross enough :) See all those brown lines everywhere... these are tail marks.... ick!
Now, to me, this was the most disturbing... Inside one of our cabinets, they had made some sort of nest... See all of these toilet paper rolls?? Well, they look like whole tubes and one looks like it's about a whole roll... well, when Adam was cleaning this up, he picked it up with a dust pan and it all disintegrated!!!!!!!!!!! I know that sounds hard to believe, but all that you see was just a facade - it was like a shell and they had built up underneath... soooo weird! Adam just dumped it into the toilet and flushed it - it was that disintegrated!
So yeah, we're back :) We're cleaning up and readjusting :) It's going good :) Here's a pic (below) of what we saw going to the market yesterday :) Fun!

Ewwww.... that's all I can say! One of my least favorite things in all the world- rats!! I don't know how you did it! :-) So glad though that you're home safely and that your getting back into the groove of things! What a story you'll have from this journey back home! Oh, one question, when you got there and opened the door, did the rats run everywhere or were they gone??

I think they were gone... we haven't seen them... so hopefully they're gone! We've flushed the toilet, so hopefully we've closed off their one and only passage in!!! There was poop everywhere - man, was it gross!!!! Adam did a great job cleaning it up! (yeah, I couldn't handle it!) :)

Ohmygoodness, I'm so sorry about your rats! That's the grossest thing that could have been waiting for you. Glad you're back :).

I can only say, "Wow!" And not in a good way. Hey, I hope you are going to share some summary blogposts about your time in America. What you liked, missed, couldn't wait to get away from:), what was a big adjustment, what was the most fun or pleasant surprise...that kind of stuff.
GROSS! I won't comment on the unwelcome visitors, but I will say I LOVED the camel pics. It's a shame you can't go by camel direct from the U.S. so you could've averted de-icing planes. Haha! Guess you'd still be on the road!

That's pretty much nasty! It's making me worry about when we go STAS... Maybe it will help that our dog will still be in the backyard - she killed a rat the other day and it was decaying near the sandbox - GROSS!

EWWW! I'm so glad you have a hubby so you didn't have to handle that yourself!! Our friends in HP had a rat problem and James went over to help and after they killed it, he took a picture of it next to his shoe...it was bigger than his shoe!! BLEHHH.
I love the camel pic, too. What a nice welcome back sight, huh? A good reminder of, "Man this place is cool!" :)

yea, I'm so glad your return home was safe and Aashini did great too!!!!
I thought you were gonna have some people staying at your house when you were gone? Guess not, yea, thats not fun, Spike our neighbor had a big rat poblem about 8 mos ago, they ate all the hoses on the dish washer and water was everywhere, we put traps out and one was so big he carried the trap away, It took us about 3 months to finally get rid of them.See those dirty rats can be everywhere:)lovegrams

gross. but I'm glad you're home safely. and I had never been on a plane that needed de-icing until my sister moved to boston and I went to visit... and it's happened like FOUR times since then. crazy.

happy cleaning!

Your story about the planes in Detroit was just like my mom's story. They're in China. I wonder if you were at the airport at the same time? Go read her blog http://onemoreplease.blogspot.com/

Welcome home! Wow. . .rats. There were tons of those in Haiti that would climb into our attic. We finally ended up having a boa constrictor climb into our attic one day and feast on all the rats for a while. Then we had the problem of the six foot snake in our attic (no exageration). I still think i would take the boa over the rats though. ;)

Yay for being home - yuck on the rats though - and a huge YAY for Adam cleaning it all up - I don't think I could do that either ;)

May I just say I am soooo sorry! I am guessing that is the bathroom in your bedroom? Since the Stewarts stayed there after us I wouldn't guess there was time for the other toilet to dry up. Glad you made it back safely. Sorry about the nastiness from the rats (I thought it was bad that we have a couple of mice!).

Campa Cola & Exploring :)

Today we had some things to do in the Central part of our city, so while we were there, we decided to take on some adventures :) Adventure #1 - the underground market. This market is pretty crazy. It's actually underground and has electronics & clothes mostly. They sell things pretty cheap, so it's an interesting place to go. Today we got an 64 Gig flash drive/pen drive for about $5. Crazy hunh? Here's Adam and Aashini in one of the stores. They're all REALLY small stores - about 10x10 feet I would guess (but I'm really bad at guessing that sort of stuff :)) We go here a lot to get things, so I guess it's not a new adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. Before the next part of our adventure (the real part of our adventure) we stopped for lunch. Aashini will always eat at McDonalds, so that's where we went :) They just started selling chicken nuggets here at McDonalds, so it's super easy to get her to eat there :) This McDonald's had high chair

Starbucks!

Starbucks opened in our city last night!!  I'm not a huge coffee drinker... but I was excited about the opening!!  (I think I like Starbucks because of all the green! haha!... Aashini and Diya think the mermaid on the logo looks like me... haha! Maybe it's the weird wavy hair :)... not sure :) ) Anyway, we got there and the line was SUPER long!  The wait time was about 45 minutes!!!  There were so many people there!!!  I tried to get a pic of all the people... (that's why this picture is at an annoying angle... I was trying to get it all in in between the columns :))    Here's Aashini doing a jumping picture!!  The girls tried to do a jumping picture :) haha!  haha!  They had a few spills along the way :)  I never got them both jumping :)  Stuff for sale....  OK, one more because I think they are cute :) haha!  People waiting in line :) Some friends that made it inside! :)  We decided not to wait in line... So we'll
