Tilak Ceremony - Wedding Part 1

Jaya is married!!!!!!!!! OK, so I'm getting ahead of myself...
This week was Jaya's wedding!!!
We went to M-town to hang out and celebrate with them. South Asian weddings are very different from American weddings. One of the things that makes them different is that they are longer. They can be anywhere between 3 days and 2 weeks (I've even heard of some being longer!!). Everything started with the Sagai (Engagement Ceremony - if you want to read about Jaya's click here!) Jaya & Deepansh were engaged for about 6 months before the wedding.
Here we are dressed up for the first night of the festivities (I look funny, but I loved Aashini's smile so I had to include it) :)
First we went over to Jaya's house. People (mostly family) were at the house. We hung out for a couple of hours with them before the next part. Aashini played with the neighbor kids and had fun :)
This event was different to me because the Bride wasn't supposed to come. Jaya, her mom and some of the family stayed home with her.
We went to the park across the street from Deepansh's (the groom's) house. They had a big tent set up in the park. There was tons of food, places to sit, dance floor, DJ, etc! Here's Adam & Aashini with Mayank & his dad.
Adam got his first opportunity to wear some fun jutes (shoes). He'd always wanted the kind that curled at the toes. This was his first chance to wear them and he was excited :)
This is one of my friends. I love her smile - this pic makes me smile :)
This event was for the bride's family to deliver the dowry gifts to the grooms family. Here are some of the gifts below:
The bride's family arranged the gifts on the stage. Then they had a puja (worship ceremony). Most of this ceremony was between Deepansh (groom) and Mayank (Jaya's brother). A pundit (Hindu priest) led this ceremony.
Here's Aashini watching - she thought it was interesting.
During the puja time, there was a large group of women sitting on the side singing bajhans (religious songs) and some folk songs.
After this time, they had food. There was tons of food and tons of snacks - it was so yummy!!
After the food, they had dancing. Here is Aashini with my friend Nikita - she was teaching Aashini how to dance Indian style :)
Here's Aashini in action on the dance floor :)
This was just the beginning!!! It would be too long to put into one post, so I will write more about it soon (and check my facebook after I'm done wedding posting b/c I'll have even more pics up on there) :)

Comic Con 2013

Comic Con 2013 just ended.  It was a fun one this year.  This was the 3rd Annual Comic Con here.  We've been to it all 3 years.  It's getting bigger each year!  I think they grew out of their venue this year...it was soooo crowded!  Here's me imitating "Superkudi" :)  Aashini and me :)  For the Love of Comics...  Some guys that were dressed up... the guy on the left isn't in his full attire... He won the CosPlay contest that day... he won a trip to Dubai to their Comic Con!!  This was my favorite costume of the day... Nyan Cat :)  There were lots of people there!  Me and the girls on the 2nd day :)  I had to have at least one jumping picture :) Our friend Ford made a video of the first day... check it out!

Weekend Getaway!!

During the Diwali holidays, the kiddos had off almost a week of school.  So, us and some of our friends went on a getaway!  We went just a little outside of the city to another state and stayed at a fun resort.   Look at the view from our room!  Fun hunh?  Aashini and Diya got to play a lot with their buddies Sanjana and Sandeep :)  The kiddos had a great time on the outside play area :)  The boys spent most of their time playing sports! haha!  They played Badminton (pictured below), Tennis, Water Polo and Cricket at any chance they got! :)  They played ALL day long! haha!  The hotel also had an indoor play area.  They kids had a lot of fun at that one too :)  It had a crazy slide that was super steep and fast!  They usually ended up sliding across the floor  a few feet after they slid off :) haha!  We all tried the slide too :) haha!  There were fountains and water ever...

MasterChef Australia!!!

MasterChef Australia is a great show!  When it's on, we get it 5 days a week.  There are TONS of episodes.  The thing that makes it really cool is that the judges and contestants are all so nice!  The contestants don't stab each other in the back and they even help each other!   Anyway, the other night (a couple of weeks ago) some friends of ours were in town and wanted to go to Chili's, so we went over to the mall to eat :)  When we got there we saw that the bookstore had the Judges (and very famous chefs/restaurant owners) inside signing cookbooks!    When we got inside, they had just closed off the line, so we weren't allowed to go through the line and get them to sign a cookbook or get a pic with them :(    So... we stood as close as we could and took pics :) haha!  (and I didn't have my camera, only my phone to take pics)... Here's Gary...    Here's George with my friend Amy :)  And my at...
