Still Raining!!!

It's still raining!!! It never rains this much here. The newspaper says that this is definitely the most rain we've had in 15 (or more) years!! We usually only get rain about 2 times a year, so the city really isn't set up for this much rain! This morning Aashini and I were in a rickshaw and we had to go through HUGE areas of water! The water was coming into the rickshaw! It was crazy!! Anyway, lots of rain has been messy, but fun :)

Monsoon!!

Monsoon season in the Capital isn't as exciting as in other places in our country, but even so, we get excited about rain. We rarely get rain, so when it's monsoon season it's different and exciting :) I messed up these pictures a little and didn't have time to go back and change them, so you'll just have to see these :) Aashini LOVED the rain! She had tons of fun playing out in the rain on our balcony with her umbrella (we don't really play with the puddles on the street... you can't be sure what is in those... sewers tend to overflow in rainy season.... so playing in the puddles on our balcony is perfect!). She thought it was awesome! Since it doesn't rain here very much, the city isn't set up to handle a lot of rain, so when it rains the roads get a little crazy! One day we went to the mall when it was raining! We thought we weren't going to make it in! Monsoon is fun and keeps life even more interesting :)

Shiny Clothes & Grimey Walls

So, through many of my blog posts you've seen many different South Asian clothing styles... There's the sari, the different kinds of suits, Kurtas, etc.... But what I haven't introduced you to are the awesome outfits that South Asians put on their kids... I was at the Market the other day and was buying a few little clothing items for Aashini and the guy that I usually buy from told me he had something that I should get for her... He pulled out this outfit... It was super tack-fabulous (tacky) - and very sparkly... AND it was only $1 for the outfit, so I thought - haha! why not!? So I bought it... I want Aashini to fit in with the culture here, right? haha!! So here it is!!.... Oh yeah, it's awesome! And, on another note... it's still raining here!!! It hasn't rained in a couple of days now, so i think we might be back to normal - but we've been having WAY more rain than normal!! Usually in May, we have 17 mm of rain... but this year we've had 164 mm!!!...

Rain and Microwaves!

It has been HOT!! Two weeks ago, it got up to 125 a couple of days! It has been realllllly hot! Then, all of a sudden, we had a "cool front". It was 100-105 every day and it really felt cool outside - yes, I know, crazy hunh? THEN..... yesterday and today is RAINED!!! It has felt GREAT!!! Here's a pic of what our street looked like when it rained yesterday :) On another note... WE NOW HAVE A MICROWAVE!!! When we lived in M-town, our kitchen was small and could only have an oven or a microwave - so we ended up getting an oven... Some of our good friends just moved back to the states, so we bought their microwave from them (thanks J&K!). The problem is, we haven't had one in 2 years, so we sort-of forgot how to use one :) haha! no, I didn't put a metal cup in the microwave :) (I did remember about that) but for our first use of the microwave, Adam tried to pop a bag of popcorn and really burnt it (that's why there's that nice brown spot on the back)......
