Temples

Before we went to the US, I took some pictures outside of a very famous temple that isn't very far from our house. I thought this little boy walking around the temple grounds was really cute :) There were lots of people outside of the temple begging. They sat in organized rows and people brought them food and money. This temple has a lot of shoe stations where you can give your shoes to someone to watch while you're in the temple.... it's hard to see in this picture but there are a bunch of them. The last time I was there, there were a ton of blind beggars all sitting together. Here they are again. All of the people sitting in this area were blind. People would come and bring them food and money. There are a couple of temples in this complex, but the one that is the most famous is the Hanuman Temple. Hanuman is the monkey god in H'nduism. There were a few people walking around dressed like him. This guy was asking for money as well. I thought his tail was...

Monkeys & the City

Today Emily and I went out around town to do some business things, "other things" and to have some fun. To start off the morning we went to one of my favorite parantha places :) We had yummy paranthas (I had a yummy lemon one!). Here's a picture of Emily by the Parantha place - see the monkey? - he was throwing things in my hair - ick! I thought these quits were awesome! Here's a view from one of the metro stations :) There weren't many cars on the road, so it looked a little funny :) I thought this doorway was cool :) It's not a great picture (my 50 mm lens is stuck on my camera and I couldn't stand in the middle of the road to take the picture) but it was so cool I just had to take a picture ;) Fun!

Monkeying Around

Today as we were leaving our house the monkey man came down the street. He comes down the street on his bicycle multiple times a day with his monkeys riding on the back. You can pay him to have the monkeys perform. Our across the street neighbors paid to have the monkeys come over to preform and they invited us in to see it too :) The owner made the monkeys do a bunch of tricks. I felt a little bad for the monkeys, but the show was entertaining :) Aashini and Hazel had a fun time watching it :) The whole monkey show was a story about this monkey and his wife and life. It was pretty funny... a little weird too. ... there were a few "scenes" that I totally didn't get... like this one - haha! It was quite entertaining and the kids loved it :) haha!

Fun Funny Things! :)

We always have people going up and down our street selling things. This is one of my favorite things. This guy bikes down our street almost daily. He holds onto the handlebar with his little fingers and plays the drum with the rest of his hand so that you know that he's there. If you stop him, you can pay him some money to watch his monkeys dance and take pictures with them. I love that they hop on the back of his bicycle and ride along ;) Most monkeys are a little scary, but I think this is cute :) (at least from a distance) :)

Around Town

I bring my camera with me everywhere - you never know when you're going to see something interesting :) So I have a bunch of pictures that I've taken randomly around town :) These guys were sitting in the parking garage - I thought it was fun the way they were sitting :) This is the broom guy :) He goes down our street every day selling brooms, squeegees and a few other things like that on his bicycle :) There are certain times of the day that the buses are very crowded - especially if it has been raining. You can see the guys hanging out of the bus - one guy only has one hand and one foot to hold on with!! This monkey was chillin' on some parked cars at a market the other day :) You never know what will be on the road. There are always different carts (like the one below) on the roads. This one was a motorized bicycle with a whole family on the cart :) It was cute :) It was really fast too, this was the best pic I could get of it :) This is a slum in an area of th...

Monkeys & Snow Cones

Yesterday we were at the north part of the Capital. We went all around the universities up there. It was great fun and we saw a BUNCH of monkeys :) At one point, our cycle driver stopped by the monkeys, pulled out some roti (flat bread) and fed the monkeys :) It was funny to watch them eat it :) This baby monkey (below) was too cute - I just had to include him :) His mom was very protective and ran over to attack our cycle when she saw me taking a picture. In an awesome market by the universities, there was a snow cone man... they area all over this country, but I don't think I've ever taken a picture of one... so, for your viewing enjoyment - THE SNOWCONE STAND. (but if you come to visit... DON'T get a snowcone... If you do, then you will probably call it a "Giardia Cone")

Just Hanging Around...

Adam and I decided to have a fun and relaxing Sunday. We decided to try to go to a big garden that is supposed to be beautiful and only open for a couple of months. We walked around that area and finally found it... but cameras wern't allowed in... so we left and decided to come back some time without our cameras.... We did see a bunch of cute monkeys while looking for the entrance gate :) (Adam was a little scared of them though... he was carrying some bread that we had just bought and was a little afraid that the monkeys were going to come and attack him - so he hid his bread in his shirt... he got some funny looks... :) After all of that, we went to one of our favorite places to eat!! - The Big Chill ;) It was awesome!! The night before we went to a cool Saturday market and there were tons of bangles... thought I'd include a pic of them :) I love bangles! :)
