International Trade Fair

So last year we went to the International Trade Fair (IIF) here in the capital. It was really cool. The only problem was, that last year we went on a weekend night... so it was extrememly busy... so busy that we could hardly move around.... SO.... this year we decided we'd go on Wednesday at 1:00 when it opened (that's around lunch time for most people here)... we thought that it wouldn't be so busy then...
I mean really, what was I thinking... we live in a city of millions of people!! We got to one of the gates and this is what we saw....
So we thought, hmmm.... maybe all of these people are just hanging around and waiting for other people or something like that... so we decided to check out the lines.... hahaha... see below:
Just a few people in line hunh? hahaha :) This is only one of the many entrances... I think there were about 12 gates!!! Hahaha... Adam and I figured out a quick way to get in :) and we were in in about 10 minutes :) Of course, there's always a little entertainment while you are waiting:
Inside the trade fair, there are sooo many things to do!! There are HUGE buildings for each state of the country that has stuff about the state and you can see what they are famous for. They also sell things that are special to their state. It's really neat... Below is a picture of some guys performing in front of one of those buildings...
This guy was stylin' in his pink turbin! :)
We had a lot of fun, and at the end of the day, I got to drive a rickshaw!! How cool is that :) hahaha :) (I look really cool :))

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

In Thailand!

We flew to Bangkok, Thailand today! The flight went well :) Aashini cried a little, but did awesome! We got the bulkhead seat and they even had an extra seat next to us! Aashini really only set in it for a pic or two, but it was fun anyway :) You can see the Buddhist monk in red behind Aashini. The guy that set next to us was a Monk also, he was actually the translator for the Dalai Lama ! Cool hunh? It was funny because he was typing on his laptop the whole flight (and Aashini was grabbing at his robe - haha!) This picture below cracked me up so I had to post it :) When we got here we had to go get a few things at the grocery store :) Aashini went to her first grocery store in the Middle East, but this was her first time getting to ride in a cart!!! She LOVED it!! She was swining her legs, babbling up a storm and looking at everything! Thai people LOVE babies!!! She got a lot of attention today! I have a feeling she's going to get a lot of attention the next coupl...
