Mela Fun!

Today we went to a really fun Craft Mela (Festival). It was in the state below us. After a fun trip via rickshaw, we made it to the Mela. It was HUGE!! We spent almost the whole day at the fair!

They had crafts and fun performances. There were a lot of performances from the colorful state below and West of us. The ladies did some really cool dances.
Mom had a lot of fun meeting the ladies that did the singing and dances.
There were a lot of kids performing and dancing - they were really cute :) Some of the guys in the crowd really go into some of the dancing - it reminded us a lot of M-town :) It was seriously one of the most colorful fairs I have ever been too! They decorated some bicycle rickshaws and they gave rides through the fair - they looked so funny!! There were some awesome camels... I like this pic b/c the guy in the background is making a face that looks a lot like this camel :)

How neat... Doesn't look much like a fair would here. I bet your parents really enjoyed seeing that. I know I would just enjoy the experience. I love the way the people are just so willing to let you take pictures of them. I mean here I'd be afraid to ask someone. ha ha ha... I love it....

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Funny Things 2 - American Fair Edition

We just got back from Roadtrip #8 in Macon, GA. It was an awesome trip!! So, before we head out on the next trip, we went to the North Florida Fair! The fair is always famous for it's fried foods... they fried everything!!... They had fried/breaded zucchini, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, green tomatoes, okra, pickles, etc :) I had a lot of it too - YUM! Now, I'd heard of fried Snickers & twinkies (which they had) but they also had FRIED OREOS & PEANUTBUTTER CUPS :) The fair was cool. They had a shark show and a sea lion show... but our favorite was the pig races :) haha!!! It was hilarious!! Aashini was close up to the race until the pigs came - then she crawled up into Adam's lap really fast :) (as seen below) :) Pig races! haha! Cracks me up!
