It's Getting HOT...

It's starting to get hot... the heat started up a little later this year, which is nice, but it's coming on strong now!! Every day it's gotten up about one degree hotter than the next - so it won't be long before we get those wonderful 125 degree days :) Luckily our flat is a lot cooler than the one we had in M-town. In M-town, it was so hot in our flat that our toothpaste melted!! I used to put my pajamas in a ziplock in the freezer during the day so that I would have something cool to put on at night when I went to bed :)
.
OK, so on our friend's blog the other day they made a list, so I thought I'd copy them and do the same:
.
YOU KNOW IT'S HOT WHEN...
- It's 11 pm and your thermometer still reads 95 F (even though the sun went down 4 hours ago).
- It’s hotter to be driving in the rickshaw, than to be sitting still in traffic (because the air is so hot it feels like a blow-dryer blowing in your face)
- You decide to take a shower to cool off and find that the cold water is actually HOT.
- You decide to give your baby a bath and fill the bath with only “cold water” but the water is too hot and you have to add ICE to the baby’s bath.
- You step out of the shower and immediately break into a sweat.
- You have to stick your head in the freezer several times while making dinner so you don't pass out.
- You re-think cooking dinner over a hot stove (in a kitchen without a fan because the fan would blow out the fire on the stove) and consider ordering out.
- The candles in your house are no longer straight and have melted into a funny blob.
- The chocolate that isn’t in the refrigerator is completely melted.
- You notice that water doesn't take as long to boil because it's already halfway there out of the tap
.
I know there are more - but that's what I have right now :) I'm sure I'll be adding more later :) Here's a pic to leave you with... This guy was hot while he was out pushing his cart, so he found a place in the shade to cool off for a nap...

Man there are tons of things I miss about India but the heat is not one of them. Yea for not being pregnant during the heat this year!

haha That man sleeping in the 'shade' is hilarious.

This is good salad-for-dinner season. Well...if you could actually find lettuce, that is. :)

I love hot weather, but that is REALLY hot! It reminds me of Taiwan where you just want to take a cold shower, but when you get out you are sweating.

You seem to find a lot of people taking naps around town. Doesn't anyone go home for a nap anymore? lol

oh.my.word. and you were pregnant in that heat?!!?!?! poor thing. i knew you guys had to deal with intense heat, but i did not realize it got THAT hot. ok. you just shut me up about our hot, hazy, muggy summers down here. when i feel like complaining, i will think of you. (and probably still whine a little. :D )
Such a fun post! Your descriptions made me laugh... and be thankful for spring days where the morning temps are still in the 50s here! As I read your post, I couldn't help but think of when I was in the country you visited for vacation recently and I could wash my clothes in the sink, hang them to dry outside, take a shower and by then my clothes would be dry enough to put back on! :)

Wow. We had a 115 degree day in Chiang Mai last week supposedly. It was probably good I didn't know it was THAT hot. Now we're in HK and its a lot cooler. But in a few days we'll go home where it could still snow on any given day! Crazy.

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Funny Things 2 - American Fair Edition

We just got back from Roadtrip #8 in Macon, GA. It was an awesome trip!! So, before we head out on the next trip, we went to the North Florida Fair! The fair is always famous for it's fried foods... they fried everything!!... They had fried/breaded zucchini, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, green tomatoes, okra, pickles, etc :) I had a lot of it too - YUM! Now, I'd heard of fried Snickers & twinkies (which they had) but they also had FRIED OREOS & PEANUTBUTTER CUPS :) The fair was cool. They had a shark show and a sea lion show... but our favorite was the pig races :) haha!!! It was hilarious!! Aashini was close up to the race until the pigs came - then she crawled up into Adam's lap really fast :) (as seen below) :) Pig races! haha! Cracks me up!
