Funny Things - Tips & Advice!!!

We get lots of tips and advice here in South Asia. I can actually say that very few days go by that we don't get advice. During the winter time the number one thing we are told is not to drink cold water!! Here's an email forward (thanks Em!) that a friend sent me about the effects of Cold Water....
EFFECTS OF COLD WATER This is what it said:
"Please be a true friend and send this article to all your friends you care about.
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal."
So there ya go! haha! Here are some other gems of advice that I thought were funny regarding phones...
  • Answer the phone by LEFT ear.
  • When battery is down to the last grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

Haha! OK... just thought I would share - it made me smile :)

Haha, I love that. I get yelled at all the time too for drinking cold water in the winter. I think my Uyghur mother almost had a heart attach the first time she saw me add ice cubes to my glass.

when I lived in germany they were all about the no-cold-water thing too. but they never could explain WHY. maybe I should forward this to them. :)

That's awesome! I love the explanation! We got stern warnings about drinking cold things in China, too. Actually, I remember doing some work in Honduras once, and a helpful local friend laid my ice-cold coke bottle out in the sun while I worked so I wouldn't "get sick" from drinking something cold after working up a sweat. Nothing like a piping hot coke to refresh you!

Crazy Americans with our cold drinks, haha.

Since moving to South Asia, I actually don't like to drink cold water anymore. Guess I don't have to worry about getting cancer. Haha!

Comic Con 2013

Comic Con 2013 just ended.  It was a fun one this year.  This was the 3rd Annual Comic Con here.  We've been to it all 3 years.  It's getting bigger each year!  I think they grew out of their venue this year...it was soooo crowded!  Here's me imitating "Superkudi" :)  Aashini and me :)  For the Love of Comics...  Some guys that were dressed up... the guy on the left isn't in his full attire... He won the CosPlay contest that day... he won a trip to Dubai to their Comic Con!!  This was my favorite costume of the day... Nyan Cat :)  There were lots of people there!  Me and the girls on the 2nd day :)  I had to have at least one jumping picture :) Our friend Ford made a video of the first day... check it out!

MasterChef Australia!!!

MasterChef Australia is a great show!  When it's on, we get it 5 days a week.  There are TONS of episodes.  The thing that makes it really cool is that the judges and contestants are all so nice!  The contestants don't stab each other in the back and they even help each other!   Anyway, the other night (a couple of weeks ago) some friends of ours were in town and wanted to go to Chili's, so we went over to the mall to eat :)  When we got there we saw that the bookstore had the Judges (and very famous chefs/restaurant owners) inside signing cookbooks!    When we got inside, they had just closed off the line, so we weren't allowed to go through the line and get them to sign a cookbook or get a pic with them :(    So... we stood as close as we could and took pics :) haha!  (and I didn't have my camera, only my phone to take pics)... Here's Gary...    Here's George with my friend Amy :)  And my at...

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!
