Since we're going to the states in a couple of weeks and will be gone about 5 months, we needed to take a trip to M-town before we left :) We took our favorite express train over there - which was great! Aashini has ridden on a train once before -but she slept though it - she actually got to enjoy it this time :) haha! First stop was Jaya & Mayank's house. Aashini had fun getting to play with them and at their house :) It was fun getting to see them :) After that we went to a few other people's houses for a few minutes and then we to the Kumar's house. Aashini had a lot of fun there too :) Mona didi let her play with her bangles and she thought that was so cool!
Shakshi started playing the Sitar - so seh performed for us :)
For our ride home, we weren't able to go on our favorite Express train, so we rode on the Mail train. It's a sleeper train (it goes a long distance). We only rode on it for 2 hours, so not bad :) This train is fun but somehow we ended up in the 3 tier car - which means that the beds are stacked 3 high (except in the aisle - as seen in the pic below)... so you can't sit up in the bed unless the other people that are in your tier decide they want to sit up too and fold up the beds to make a seat... luckily we go to sit :) This train is funny too because we always see rats when we ride it - I don't know why, but I think that's so funny!
That's it :) It was a great trip and a lot of fun!
Here's a video... most of you won't be at all interested in it... so don't feel like you have to watch it :) In January a bunch of us that were youth interns at FBC Tally are getting together for a reunion... so I made a video... it's short - so if you're interested, check it out :)
i was just going to ask about your house. that would be weird having to leave your house empty for that long. if you come back to visit louisiana let us know!!
i'm glad you find rats on the train amusing, b/c i think i'd find them something quite different! When you're in the states, will you by chance be in the DC area? Since I know you'll be in FL, but I now won't! :(
Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!
There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!
We made it back! The flights were so long (especially our 6 hour layover right off the bat) but we made it!! We flew from Tallahassee to Memphis (where the long layover was) and then Memphis to Detroit (see picture below). It was snowing in Detroit! The only snow we saw all the time in the states was at the airpots! haha! We left Detroit about an hour late because they had to De-ice the plane! I'm from the south so I had no idea that they did that... and that it would take so long! haha! We were an hour late coming into Amsterdam (where it was snowing too!) and had to rush to our gate (it was a blur of wooden shoes!)... When we got in the plane we had to wait about 1.5 hours while they de-iced that plane! So we got into the Captial at about 2:00 am!! When we got home we were welcomed to a rat infestation in our bathroom!!! EWWWW!!!! Aparently, if the toilet isn't flushed for a couple months and dries out, then rats can crawl UP the TOILET!!! yes... nice... They wrecked our ba...

aren't youth friends the best?
Is Shakshi any good on the sitar? I love that first picture of Aashini. Does she ever cry??
