Bugs.... YUM! :)

In most markets here in Chiang Mai you can find fried bugs to eat. We always see them and always say that we're going to try them sometime, but haven't yet. I really craved crickets when I was pregnant with Aashini, but never ate them when I was craving them.... so, when we were at a waterfall the other day and saw some fried bugs, we decided it was time :)
Adam went first and got the biggest grossest bug there (in my opinion) :)
He had a hard time biting though the wings - gross!! He said it was OK....
Next I tried my cricket. It actually tasted OK. It wasn't bad, but the cricket leg stuck in my throat wasn't that great... :)
Aashini tried one too :)
She liked it :) She thought it was funny to eat bugs :) On the way home, she got hungry and found the bag of bugs and just started munching on them - it was hilarious - she loved the grubs the best - haha! Yesterday she was hungry and asked for some bugs to eat!! What a funny third-culture kid we have :)

Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Adam ate a ROACH?! I can't even formulate words at this point, just a bunch of ?s and !s!?!?!

(But you ended this post on a VERY cute note with your little TCK asking for grubs :)
I love this post.
Not the roach part. That part made me scroll down quickly and body parts pucker.
The TCK eating bugs, however, adorable as it gets!

We have plenty of roaches in our house we could sell Adam. :) I'll even fry them and add in some salt if it means they would be out of our house! The part about Ashini is so very cute. :)

Hey, the fried silk worms are the best. Crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside! :-)

How in the world do you crave crickets??? I gotta hear more about that. Have you had them before? Weird!!!

Hilarious. You guys are awesome. I love that you wanted to do bugs. Maybe we'll try them when we get there and see what our kids think. I might imagine the boys would like them.

I can't decide whether Adam eating that huge roach makes me want to cry or vomit. It's unpleasant either way. Keep Aashini away from that crazy daddy!!!!

Emily, I'm totally with you on this one. :)

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Funny Things - Random :)

Here's a few random funny things ;) One thing that drives a lot of people crazy is honking! There are things that drive me crazy (like people urinating on the sidewalks - yuck!) but thankfully honking is not one of them because we hear it pretty much 24/7. We saw this poster the other day (below) and thought it was funny... BUT not as funny as the Hindi poster. The Hindi poster pretty much said that 'Honking is bad for your health' - haha ! Horns are actually a pretty necessary part of driving here. You don't really look behind you when you drive (most people either don't use their side mirrors, don't have side mirrors, or just have them folded in). When you drive, you just drive forward and you honk at the person in front of you to let them know that you're there - simple right? Sure, it's a little noisy, but you never have to look behind you :) If you go to that company's website it says: "Have patience at the traffic signals, let the signal t...
