The RAT!!!

Well, the rats have struck again...
When we came back from our time in the states, we found that rats had made a home in our bathroom, but yesterday we had a new experience...
The last few days we thought we had heard some random rustling in the night, and thought we might have seen some droppings... so we thought that MAYBE we might have a mouse or something...
Well.... last night at about 1:30 AM, Adam and I were both woken up to a rustling... we both heard it and laid very still... Adam got out his cell phone and shone a light on my bedside table and thought he saw something. He then thought it was just a shadow or something, so we laid back down - only to hear another sound. I got up to go to the bathroom, and that's when Adam starting searching a little bit where he thought he heard the rat and he SAW it! He ran to the kitchen to get some sort of "weapon" to get the rat. I wasn't sure what he'd come back with, but he came back with our wiper (a big, long-handled squeegee). He then went to where he saw the rat... a pretty disturbing place if you ask me... it was in our BED! You see, here, our beds are kind of like big boxes. you don't store stuff under your bed, but inside of it. So your mattress is put on top of those boxes and if you want a headboard, it's screwed into the boxes. ANYWAY, the rat was inbetween the headboard and the mattress. Aparently that was his gateway from one side of the bed to the other and had been running back and forth that way for a while...
Adam grabbed the wiper and used it like a spear and got the rat. I won't go into any details - you can ask Adam if you really want to know :) Here's a pic of Adam trapping/killing the rat...
Here's Adam feeling like a hunter/gatherer or something like that - haha! You can see our wiper was broken in half from this experience... I'm telling you, you really don't want to know the details... The Rat wasn't huge (only about a foot long) but it was still a rat!!! He's in the bag Adam is holding...
We both laid in bed for a while after that... our adrenaline was kinda up and we couldn't go back to sleep - haha! I'm getting kinda tired of rats... at least this one was kinda clean looking and not a sewer rat! ick!! Really though, as gross as stuff like this is, it really keeps life exciting - and as much as I hate rats, I love funny experiences :) haha!

Did you have the heebeegeebees after?
Heebeegeebees is a great word to describe how I would've felt! Good attitude! I am strongly opposed to all small creatures now (other than babies, haha) after Hunter got bitten by a poodle two days ago...

Wow! You are much more brave than me! I think I would have climbed into bed with Aashini. And I thought my roach problem was bad!

your husband rocks. I'm pretty sure I would have thrown up. I'm also pretty sure I have never seen a rat in real life, because, um... a FOOT long? that's not a rat that's a DOG. Or a small horse.

Ew.

um, if "about a foot" is not a huge rat out there, I don't want to know what is!

if a foot-long rat is small, i'd hate to see what the average size rat is!! EEK!

geez! i'm not sure i could go back to sleep either... EVER! i freak out over mice so i'm pretty sure a rat would send me right over the edge. yay adam for manning up and getting that sucker! i've seen those traps that catch mice so you can then release them unharmed (so they can laugh at you and come back in your house), and i say NO WAY! there should be no catch and release for rodents. they must be destroyed!! ok. sorry. you got me all worked up. so sorry about the rat. hope he was an only child.

Let me preface this by saying, I like rats. I used to keep them as pets. BUT wake me up in the middle of the night with a huge strange rat crawling around in my bed and I would be FREAKING OUT. And probably never going back to sleep. AHckk!!!

What a good husband you have! Way to go Adam protecting your family from the nasty rat. I've caught rats before but never living in my bed. Worst I had in my bed was giant cockroaches. Yech!

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Funny Things - Random :)

Here's a few random funny things ;) One thing that drives a lot of people crazy is honking! There are things that drive me crazy (like people urinating on the sidewalks - yuck!) but thankfully honking is not one of them because we hear it pretty much 24/7. We saw this poster the other day (below) and thought it was funny... BUT not as funny as the Hindi poster. The Hindi poster pretty much said that 'Honking is bad for your health' - haha ! Horns are actually a pretty necessary part of driving here. You don't really look behind you when you drive (most people either don't use their side mirrors, don't have side mirrors, or just have them folded in). When you drive, you just drive forward and you honk at the person in front of you to let them know that you're there - simple right? Sure, it's a little noisy, but you never have to look behind you :) If you go to that company's website it says: "Have patience at the traffic signals, let the signal t...
