Vacation - Episode One :)

Ahhh.... Vacation!! This year we went to Prachaubkrikhan! again and stayed at the same place we stayed at last year (Dolphin Bay). It's a great family friendly place and a lot of fun :)
Here's Aashini all suited up and ready for her first day at the pool/beach. This picture is a little out of focus, but I still thought it was cute :) We found a inflatable ring that was just her size and she actually liked that better than her "swimmies" but she looks so cute in them :) haha!
One night as the sun was going down, we tried to take a family picture or two... we weren't very successful :) haha! Oh well, here's one of the attempts :)
The resort is cheap and really great. We stayed in a little bungalow that was right next to the pool and we were right on the beach. We ate outside for our meals and it was great!
On our 2nd day, Aashini was starting to get sick, so we went with some friends into the closest town (Hua Hin) for most of the day and got medicine, hung out at the mall & had some great American BBQ. At the mall Aashini kept wanting to sit on these toys... so we stuck in a few Bhat and let her ride this one. I LOVE the look on her face!
Aashini was a bit of a scaredy cat this trip :) She was terrified of the pool until almost the last 2 days (I'll do a pool post next) and was quite scared of the sand! haha! Last Summer Aashini loved the sand, but this summer, walking on the sand kinda freaked her out.
Once we got her to sit down and gave her the sand toys, she started to love it!
She had fun playing in the sand!!!
The city we stayed in is SUPER small!!! Here's what the road looked like next to our hotel. There was NOTHING in this city except for a few hotels and shops.
Another "playing at the beach" picture :)
The fishing boats around the beach were so fun looking to me.
I like this picture :)
Last summer we took a pic of Aashini in this Same Chair ... Here she is "smiling".
One thing Aashini learned how to do this week was swing on a "big swing" by herself. She kept wanting to get on these swings so we put her on and she knew just what to do - it was cute :)
This picture makes me laugh :) Aashini's hair is funny in this picture :)
The resort also had a fun little play area. Aashini loved this little house. She would open and close the door and say: "open" and "close" while she did it :)
Aashini got her first pair of flip-flops this trip. They're way too big and she can't really walk in them, but she LOVES them!!!!!!
Another attempt at a family picture :)
We had a great and relaxing vacation (except for Aashini being sick... I'll write about that and other stuff later) :) Anyway, we can't wait for our next vacation!!!

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Funny Things - Random :)

Here's a few random funny things ;) One thing that drives a lot of people crazy is honking! There are things that drive me crazy (like people urinating on the sidewalks - yuck!) but thankfully honking is not one of them because we hear it pretty much 24/7. We saw this poster the other day (below) and thought it was funny... BUT not as funny as the Hindi poster. The Hindi poster pretty much said that 'Honking is bad for your health' - haha ! Horns are actually a pretty necessary part of driving here. You don't really look behind you when you drive (most people either don't use their side mirrors, don't have side mirrors, or just have them folded in). When you drive, you just drive forward and you honk at the person in front of you to let them know that you're there - simple right? Sure, it's a little noisy, but you never have to look behind you :) If you go to that company's website it says: "Have patience at the traffic signals, let the signal t...
