Adam's Finger Surgery :)

OK, so on the 4th of July, when we had that big fun party in Thailand and got to swim and play all day... Adam got to do his favorite thing - play Basketball... During his first game of basketball, Adam 'jammed' his finger pretty badly... of course, he then went on to play 5 more games (he'd been waiting for the 4th of July basketball games since the last 4th of July and he wasn't going to let his finger get in the way :)

So, it's been 3 weeks and his finger just didn't look right, it still hurt, and it just didn't bend or work right anymore... so we went to the doc... This is what Adam's finger looked like: So the doctor said that Adam has "mallet finger"... and sometimes know as "baseball finger"... so Adam likes to call it that - it sounds cooler :) Here's what it looks like (below).... his bone is broken and the ligament isn't attached to the top of his finger anymore... so... in order to fix it they have to put a pin in his finger to hold it in place for about 6 weeks....
Now, because it's considered "surgery" and they have to drill the pin into his finger... they have to book an operating room... and because they have to do that... it's an In-patient thing (not out patient)... so it made for a funny day.... Here's the hospital: So we had to check into the hospital and get a room and everything... we got the super cheap economy room since we would only be there for the day... and we shared it with a bunch of other people (which made it even more entertaining)... We had to get to the hospial at 7:00 am...but he didn't go into surgery until 11:30 am... so we had some time to kill.... I played with my Nintendo DS and read a little... Adam played with his Yo-yo (as seen in the pic below)... the nurses and all the other people in our room thought it was funny (and they may have thought it was a little weird too) :)

The docs also came in and asked some funny questions... (well, with the language barrier they're funny)... one doc came in and asked Adam: "Any teeth that can be removed?" - What? We were very confused with this question... finally we realized she was asking if Adam had any false teeth :) haha! So, after we had been waiting for a while, one of the docs came in - we thought it was time for the surgery - but it wasn't. The guy came in to mark Adam's hand... He pulled out a Sharpie and put a big aarow on his arm... so that they wouldn't operate on the wrong hand... we thought that was pretty funny though because Adam wasn't going to be put to sleep during the surgery... he was going to be awake... haha! oh well :)So it was finally time for Adam to have his surgery... They came to the room and made him lay in a bed to be taken to the OR... we thought that was hilarious since it was just his finger they were operating on :) Here's Adam after the surgery (below) - his arm is gross and orange!:In this pic you can see the pin in Adam's finger... Glad you were entertained and entertaining in your long wait for surgery. Looks like the finger will recover sense you both survived the procedure.

That is hilarious! All that for a teeny-tiny finger. :) Who were you sharing a room with? Random people that had similar easy surgeries or was there somebody lying in there with the plague?

Ok, not that we get pleasure from your pain, but that post was hilarious!! I can just see you 2 in there entertaining small children with the flip flop game, crawling under small pieces of furniture and making everyone laugh! What a blast! Bill was here when I was reading it, and when I said baseball finger he cringed, so since he's had all these sports injuries classes, I guess that means we should be sending a get well card!! At any rate, I hope that all is well and that this pin takes care of the problem- now the next time there is a hospital visit in your family, it better be to welcome little jelly bean to the world- just make sure to pack the sharpie- you never know!! :-)

I giggled the entire way through this blog! So funny! Esp. the teeth and arrow parts. Just thinking about it is making me laugh again. I guess we'll have some really funny posts when we're there in December! :)

I totally think that you getting to roll into surgery on a bed is sooo unfair since when I had Karis, `i had to walk down two or three flights of stairs and into the operating / delivery room - we won't even mention the lack of clothing they allowed me to have as i was walking into the room - and they made me walk to my room from recovery. Be thankful you are where you are! :-) It would be interesting to see how surgery on your finger would go here.

Just yesterday I experienced a mallet finger (middle finger on the left hand) and the pain is definitely excruciating. I was playing an inter company tournament the first round, and to obstruct a pass stretched out my hand and straight onto the path of the oncoming ball (high speed). I bruised the ring, middle and index fingers but the middle finger impacted the most. The same evening I got an X-Ray done and I was shocked to see the chipped bone. I was researching on the net to find out more details about this and this blog is the best so far. I think I am gonna get the surgery done and get that pin to hold the bones together. I hope the doctors here in India are aware of this injury...Thanks for such a great blog!

Dusshera 2012

This year, our neighborhood was quite active for Dusshera.  At one end of our street, one of the major political parties here, set up a Dusshera celebration.   Here are some guys putting the effigies together and filling it full of fireworks! They had quite the political statement for their celebration.  (Basically that expensive water, fuel, electricity, diesel, gas, etc and FDI (bringing in foreign companies like Wal-Mart) are like Raverna (the demon god)... and are the evils of today....)  Here's their set-up at the end of our street.... you can't see it very well, but they had all three effigies there that they burned....  They burned VERY quickly at this one... So quickly that by the time I pulled out my camera, it was already on the ground!!  Our street looked like those CNN videos of rioting cities :) haha!!  There was burning stuff all over the street :)  Many people will get a piece of the leftover wood/bamboo...

Funny Things 2 - American Fair Edition

We just got back from Roadtrip #8 in Macon, GA. It was an awesome trip!! So, before we head out on the next trip, we went to the North Florida Fair! The fair is always famous for it's fried foods... they fried everything!!... They had fried/breaded zucchini, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, green tomatoes, okra, pickles, etc :) I had a lot of it too - YUM! Now, I'd heard of fried Snickers & twinkies (which they had) but they also had FRIED OREOS & PEANUTBUTTER CUPS :) The fair was cool. They had a shark show and a sea lion show... but our favorite was the pig races :) haha!!! It was hilarious!! Aashini was close up to the race until the pigs came - then she crawled up into Adam's lap really fast :) (as seen below) :) Pig races! haha! Cracks me up!

In Thailand!

We flew to Bangkok, Thailand today! The flight went well :) Aashini cried a little, but did awesome! We got the bulkhead seat and they even had an extra seat next to us! Aashini really only set in it for a pic or two, but it was fun anyway :) You can see the Buddhist monk in red behind Aashini. The guy that set next to us was a Monk also, he was actually the translator for the Dalai Lama ! Cool hunh? It was funny because he was typing on his laptop the whole flight (and Aashini was grabbing at his robe - haha!) This picture below cracked me up so I had to post it :) When we got here we had to go get a few things at the grocery store :) Aashini went to her first grocery store in the Middle East, but this was her first time getting to ride in a cart!!! She LOVED it!! She was swining her legs, babbling up a storm and looking at everything! Thai people LOVE babies!!! She got a lot of attention today! I have a feeling she's going to get a lot of attention the next coupl...
