Cricket ROCKS!

I love going to fun sporting events... Our country has a cricket team and sometimes they play other cricket teams from other countries, and SOMETIMES there is a game in our city, but we've never been able to catch a game UNTIL....The Donald Trump of our country decided that we needed to have professional cricket teams in all the major cities and have them play in their own league during the "off season"... Brilliant! Our city's team is called the Daredevils! I've been watching it in the paper and so, we decided that we had to catch a game! This first season has been about 3 months and a lot of the games our out of town, but this past Saturday night we were able to catch a game! Currently we're borrowing a friend's car who is in the states, so all 9 of us that were going to the game piled up in the car and went!
I was sooo impressed with the stadium! I was a little scared before we went because I looked up the stadium capacity online and it said: "It is said to hold 60,000"... I wasn't sure what that meant, but the stadium was great and everything was super organized!!! The only problem is that you can't bring in cameras... so all of these pics are Mandy's pics from her cell phone :) Thanks Mandy!
For any of you that know a little about Cricket, you know that games can be REALLY long (if you don't know anything about cricket and want to learn, click here: Cricket)... But these games are Twenty20 games - which means that they only play two innings and the game is only about 3 hours long, so it's perfect! Here are some of the guys at the game... The signs are to use when cheering if your team scores 6 or 4 points...
Something funny happened that we weren't expecting... The fans were great and they actually cheered for both teams!! I guess because both teams are from our county and they've never had teams like this before in our country - it was funny!
The only problem was that poor little Aashini didn't have a good time... Every time people would cheer it would scare her and she would scream... She was really upset...
So I took her home a little early...
But man, was it cool! AND our city's team WON!!! 176 to 179!

That looks so fun! Wish we could have been there. That's so funny they cheer on both teams. I wonder how long that will last. Aashini looks precious screaming her head off.

Poor Aashini. If she only knew the history she was witnessing. It sounds like they have really done a good job with the league. Next time we're in town let's go to a game.

Awesome! It looks like you guys had a great time! When I was in Bangalore India and Pakistan were playing and a friend and I actually were able to score some tickets to an all dayer! It was A LOT of fun! India lost and so the fans were booing them! So different than American games! Booing your own team! Ha ha! I didn't really understand cricket until that day...we had to keep calling a friend of ours that was watching on tv and have him explain all that was going on. I am now totally a fan!

At a baseball game here, you have to get a ballpark hotdog. So what do you get at a cricket game? Naan?

Dusshera 2012

This year, our neighborhood was quite active for Dusshera.  At one end of our street, one of the major political parties here, set up a Dusshera celebration.   Here are some guys putting the effigies together and filling it full of fireworks! They had quite the political statement for their celebration.  (Basically that expensive water, fuel, electricity, diesel, gas, etc and FDI (bringing in foreign companies like Wal-Mart) are like Raverna (the demon god)... and are the evils of today....)  Here's their set-up at the end of our street.... you can't see it very well, but they had all three effigies there that they burned....  They burned VERY quickly at this one... So quickly that by the time I pulled out my camera, it was already on the ground!!  Our street looked like those CNN videos of rioting cities :) haha!!  There was burning stuff all over the street :)  Many people will get a piece of the leftover wood/bamboo...

Funny Things 2 - American Fair Edition

We just got back from Roadtrip #8 in Macon, GA. It was an awesome trip!! So, before we head out on the next trip, we went to the North Florida Fair! The fair is always famous for it's fried foods... they fried everything!!... They had fried/breaded zucchini, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, green tomatoes, okra, pickles, etc :) I had a lot of it too - YUM! Now, I'd heard of fried Snickers & twinkies (which they had) but they also had FRIED OREOS & PEANUTBUTTER CUPS :) The fair was cool. They had a shark show and a sea lion show... but our favorite was the pig races :) haha!!! It was hilarious!! Aashini was close up to the race until the pigs came - then she crawled up into Adam's lap really fast :) (as seen below) :) Pig races! haha! Cracks me up!

In Thailand!

We flew to Bangkok, Thailand today! The flight went well :) Aashini cried a little, but did awesome! We got the bulkhead seat and they even had an extra seat next to us! Aashini really only set in it for a pic or two, but it was fun anyway :) You can see the Buddhist monk in red behind Aashini. The guy that set next to us was a Monk also, he was actually the translator for the Dalai Lama ! Cool hunh? It was funny because he was typing on his laptop the whole flight (and Aashini was grabbing at his robe - haha!) This picture below cracked me up so I had to post it :) When we got here we had to go get a few things at the grocery store :) Aashini went to her first grocery store in the Middle East, but this was her first time getting to ride in a cart!!! She LOVED it!! She was swining her legs, babbling up a storm and looking at everything! Thai people LOVE babies!!! She got a lot of attention today! I have a feeling she's going to get a lot of attention the next coupl...
