Swimming Fun :)

OK, so one of the most prestigious jobs that a girl here can get is a job as an 'Air Hostess' (aka - flight attendant, stewardess, etc). They have a school here in country that is famous for training Air Hostesses. It's Called FrankFin. They train them for everything they need to know to be an Air Hostess. They learn about aviation, personal grooming and fitness, how to operate the computer system that everyone uses for reservations, and a ton of other stuff... including.............. SWIMMING!!Usually when I go swimming in the mornings, there are girls and guys from FrankFin there taking their swimming classes. I've been able to meet some great girls. Today was different though... When I got to the pool, all the girls and guys were standing by the deep end in their FrankFin uniforms (as seen in the pics), with their swim caps on (and swimming costumes underneath)... I thought it was a little odd... but figured they were just meeting about something ...
but then.....
One of the girls (wearing her button-down shirt, mini skirt and neck scarf) gets on the diving block... the teacher blows the whistle AND SHE DIVES IN!!! Clothes and all!!! Next, a guy got up... wearing a nice button-down shirt, dress pants and a necktie - AND DIVES IN!!!
I asked a girl next to me what was going on... apparently they were having their final examinations for swimming. At first I thought, maybe there was some sort of rule that they had to always wear their uniforms during exams and that's why they were swimming in their uniforms... but it's probably so that they know how to swim in it in case of an air emergency (when the plane lands in water... does that ever happen?)...
Anyway, it was one of those days when I was shooting myself for not having my camera! OK, look at the people in the pic below and try to picture it...
.... girls dressed up nice in these uniforms trying to swim... OK, it was hilarious!!!! I wish I had a picture... :)

Did they have on their shoes too?? Crazy! That must've broken the rules at that pool! Wait...no, because they still had on their swimming costumes!! Oh funny.

why even bother to put the swim costumes off underneath?

I am laughing picturing how "organized" this drill is. If they're trying to replicate an emergency, shouldn't someone just push them in en masse, and whoever makes it to the side in 2 minutes, passes? seems like it would come closer to the chaos of a plane wreck/water landing (not that I know from firsthand experience or anything). and THAT would be funny to watch.
Pictures would have been priceless!! And I agree that pushing them in en masse would have been more appropriate... and even more hysterical to watch. :)It sounds like the "survival swimming" swim test that my sisters did when they were about 5 or 6. Living in FL, you had to learn what to do if you fell in the pool so for the test they jumped in with jeans, jackets, shoes and all.

My brother once picked me up from reading near the pool and jumped in with me...with his shirt, jeans, and COWBOY BOOTS on. We sunk.

What a fun little adventure at the pool!

I saw a little documentary on BBC the other day about that flight attendant school and those girls! How funny! Love the swimming costume!
I'm loving your blog! I remember when I did my lifesaving badges years ago, that we had one where we had to swim 250 meters in jeans, a woolen sweater and shoes, over our swimmers. For us, it was to do with boat safefy, I imagine for them, it's in case of a crash. It's really hard to do!

Dusshera 2012

This year, our neighborhood was quite active for Dusshera.  At one end of our street, one of the major political parties here, set up a Dusshera celebration.   Here are some guys putting the effigies together and filling it full of fireworks! They had quite the political statement for their celebration.  (Basically that expensive water, fuel, electricity, diesel, gas, etc and FDI (bringing in foreign companies like Wal-Mart) are like Raverna (the demon god)... and are the evils of today....)  Here's their set-up at the end of our street.... you can't see it very well, but they had all three effigies there that they burned....  They burned VERY quickly at this one... So quickly that by the time I pulled out my camera, it was already on the ground!!  Our street looked like those CNN videos of rioting cities :) haha!!  There was burning stuff all over the street :)  Many people will get a piece of the leftover wood/bamboo...

Funny Things 2 - American Fair Edition

We just got back from Roadtrip #8 in Macon, GA. It was an awesome trip!! So, before we head out on the next trip, we went to the North Florida Fair! The fair is always famous for it's fried foods... they fried everything!!... They had fried/breaded zucchini, Mushrooms, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Onions, green tomatoes, okra, pickles, etc :) I had a lot of it too - YUM! Now, I'd heard of fried Snickers & twinkies (which they had) but they also had FRIED OREOS & PEANUTBUTTER CUPS :) The fair was cool. They had a shark show and a sea lion show... but our favorite was the pig races :) haha!!! It was hilarious!! Aashini was close up to the race until the pigs came - then she crawled up into Adam's lap really fast :) (as seen below) :) Pig races! haha! Cracks me up!

In Thailand!

We flew to Bangkok, Thailand today! The flight went well :) Aashini cried a little, but did awesome! We got the bulkhead seat and they even had an extra seat next to us! Aashini really only set in it for a pic or two, but it was fun anyway :) You can see the Buddhist monk in red behind Aashini. The guy that set next to us was a Monk also, he was actually the translator for the Dalai Lama ! Cool hunh? It was funny because he was typing on his laptop the whole flight (and Aashini was grabbing at his robe - haha!) This picture below cracked me up so I had to post it :) When we got here we had to go get a few things at the grocery store :) Aashini went to her first grocery store in the Middle East, but this was her first time getting to ride in a cart!!! She LOVED it!! She was swining her legs, babbling up a storm and looking at everything! Thai people LOVE babies!!! She got a lot of attention today! I have a feeling she's going to get a lot of attention the next coupl...
