2nd to Last Day :)

So here's some pics from our 2nd to last day.... we went to the boarder of the country and got to look at the neighboring country. It was really cool and the water was beautiful! Here's a goofy pic of us...
Here's our friends that we stayed / hung out with :)
We went to this cool old house. It's really old. It was amazing how they did things in order to keep things cool (pre-AC & fans) :)
The pic below is a wind tower. These were used to cool the house. The wind would come in the tower....
You can see it in the pic below, but when the wind came in, it was forced down and through the house - it was amzing how cool it kept the house!
We found this weird little thing (below) and had no clue what it was for - but it was really funny!
This pic is of a really crazy looking shop...we're not sure what they sell, but it looks really cool...
We went to this really old fort. As we were walking around, we saw these bees (?) inside a hole.... they look really different... not sure if they're hornets, bees, wasps, or what.... but they were pretty crazy!
We went to a pottery place. This country is famous for their pottery. This man below was showing us how it was made... it was cool.
One last random pic.... This is from the fort... I thought it was cool looking :)

That picture of Adam is hilarious - it needs to be a profile picture on facebook or myspace! I love the old house pictures, and your description of it. It really is amazing how they knew to keep things cool back then.

I like how there's a random white kid doing pottery in the middle east. or was he with you?

Those bees kind of freak me out. I'm going to try to forget I saw that picture. :)

Cooking!

Cooking is sooo much harder here. THis is how you "puree" vegetables when you don't have a blender or food processor (or power). Some people have those things, but most people don't. This is my friend Gita. She's mashing up some onions. It's a marble slab that's not polished and they use a big rounded rock and just roll/mash! It's cool!!

Protesting

There's some political stuff going on in our city (and now the country) right now. People are peacefully fighting against corruption. It's been very interesting to follow. Tonight there was some protesting in our neighborhood. Here are some more protesting pictures. There will probably be more protesting to come... we'll see what happens!

Jaya's Engagement!

My good friend Jaya (Mayank's sister that lives in M-town) - just got engaged!  On Sunday, I took the trip to M-town to go to her Engagement Ceremony (or Ring Ceremony).  It was a lot of fun :)!   First Stop - Beauty Parlor!  We walked a little ways down the street to a lady's house.  The beauty parlor was in one of the rooms in her house.  Jaya had already been to her house that morning to get her hair done, but now it was time for the makeup.  This beauty parlor was interesting because it only had 2 light bulbs in the whole room (and they were the energy saver kind that were dimmer than the regular ones), so it wasn't that bright inside the room.   Here's a pic of Jaya in the chair getting her makeup done.   Notice that her hair is crimped.  They use the crimper on people's hair when it's a special occasion - awesome!!! They put a  bindi  on her head and then the lady painted more and made it super fancy. Here's the finished product (after 1.5 hours)!  She...
